نبذة
مصر، ورسمياً جمهورية مصر العربية، دولة تمتد على الركن الشمالي الشرقي من أفريقيا والركن الجنوبي الغربي من آسيا عبر شبه جزيرة سيناء. يحدها البحر المتوسط شمالاً، وفلسطين وإسرائيل من الشمال الشرقي، والبحر الأحمر شرقاً، والسودان جنوباً، وليبيا غرباً، ويفصلها خليج العقبة عن الأردن والسعودية. أغلب أرضها صحراء تتخللها واحات قليلة، ويتركز السكان في وادي النيل الضيق ودلتاه، وتربط قناة السويس البحر المتوسط بالبحر الأحمر، وفي سيناء أعلى جبالها، جبل كاترين. عاصمتها وأكبر مدنها القاهرة، والإسكندرية ثانية مدنها، ولغتها الرسمية العربية، وعملتها الجنيه المصري. مناخها حار مشمس جاف في معظم البلاد، ويعتدل على الساحل الشمالي بفعل رياح البحر المتوسط، ويسقط معظم المطر القليل في أشهر الشتاء.
Egypt, officially the Arab Republic of Egypt, spans the northeast corner of Africa and the southwest corner of Asia via the Sinai Peninsula. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Palestine and Israel to the northeast, the Red Sea to the east, Sudan to the south and Libya to the west, and the Gulf of Aqaba separates it from Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Most of the land is desert with a few scattered oases, and the population is concentrated along the narrow Nile Valley and Delta. The Suez Canal links the Mediterranean with the Red Sea, and Sinai holds the highest mountain, Mount Catherine. Cairo is the capital and largest city, Alexandria the second-largest, the official language is Arabic and the currency is the Egyptian pound. The climate is hot, sunny and dry across most of the country, moderated on the northern coast by Mediterranean winds, and most of the little rain falls in winter.
